I’ve been fascinated by a Sufi tale my high school art teacher told me about, which is contained in a 200-page book with only one story that is reduced to the following sentence:
‘Until you understand the difference between the container and the content, you will not find wisdom.’1

Over the years, I’ve grappled with this idea, exploring the relationship between the container and the content through various representations:
- Container = Content
- Container ≠ Content
- Container > Content
- Container < Content
Crust is a series of works concerned with the container, the surface, the skin, the crust of the thing. It protects, it insulates, it seals, it contains, it blocks, it masks, etc.
